Greetings!
Some changes are afoot for the Seattle Surgical
Annual meeting. As you know, in recent years our meeting has been
held in association with the University of Washington Harkins
Symposium scheduled for September. This year, the University has
decided to forego the symposium, though the special Strauss lecture,
given this year by Dr. Jerry Goldstone from UCSF, will still take
place.
Last year, Dr. Billingham surveyed the membership
and many of the respondents indicated a preference for the return
of the annual meeting to the winter, culminating with the traditional
societal dinner. The council has agreed to follow this suggestion.
Therefore, the annual meeting will be rescheduled for February
2, 2007 at the Sheraton Hotel.
You will have recently received a call for abstracts
for the annual meeting. With the change of dates, the deadline
for submission will obviously need to be extended to October 15,
2006! Our plan to develop a program that incorporates resident
and membership presentations and a “How I Do It” session
that may incorporate video as well as slide/powerpoint presentation
formats. Dr. Foy will be soliciting volunteers!
So let’s see how this “return to
Seattle Surgical tradition” goes! We may like it; we may
wish to return to the combined fall format. In any event, I hope
to see all of you at the October meeting at the Rainier Club.
The after-dinner speaker will be Bonnie Dunbar, PhD. Bonnie is
the CEO for the Museum of Flight and a former astronaut. It should
be great!
