Welcome to the Seattle Surgical Society website!
President’s Note:

I’m writing in particular to ask you to set time aside for our annual meeting on January 23. The scientific session will focus on relevant issues in our profession and our practices, rather than the science of surgery per se. A “dream” agenda is provided below, to give a rough idea of the direction the meeting is heading. The details are being filled in, and we anticipate having a mixture of national and local speakers. There should be something for every surgeon, from residents to retirees and from general surgeons to sub- sub specialists. Because of the effort to make the meeting broadly appealing, we will also open the meeting to the broader regional surgical community, and encourage attendance of non-members. The meeting will not begin until 9 AM, to allow time for morning rounds, etc., but please do block out the entire day as you will not want to miss any of the topics. The evening banquet will also be held on the 23rd, at the Seattle Aquarium, which will be reserved exclusively for our use that evening, and will include access to the exhibits, a banquet dinner, and a jazz night theme. It will be open to members and guests only.

Also, this is the time to look around your professional environment for potential new members. Requirements are that candidates be at least 6 years beyond medical school and that they have either trained in Washington state or have been in practice in the area for 1 year or more. You can refer potential candidates to our administrative secretary, Sue Lentz, (suelentz@comcast.net) or president-elect Ted Kohler (kohler@u.washington.edu), or any member of the Board. Applications need to be in by the middle of October to be approved in time for the November election. As you know, benefits of membership are substantial, and one of the best bargains around, so please do consider who might be a candidate for the Society.

Finally, the autumn meetings are almost upon us, and should be most enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing you there!
